Fuel Cells Fuel cell technology has a long history. Developed by Sir William Grove in 1839, fuel cells have been used in the aerospace industry since the 1960s. Fuel cells provide users with electric power over a very long period of time. They can be used in addition to or even as alternatives to conventional battery-powered systems. IdaTech's direct hydrogen-fuelled fuel cells can supply Masterguard UPS-systems with direct current voltage, e.g. via a DC voltage link, thus offering almost unrestricted autonomy. This technology is applied in sectors such as telecommunications, for power authorities, IT, for public customers (agencies in charge of turnpike maintenance and the like) and used for a variety of other applications requiring long, autonomous running times. ElectraGen backup power systems are based on a modular and scalable design and are ideal complementary applications for battery systems. The fuel cell is powered using hydrogen from hydrogen bottles or with a built-in reformer of methanol-water fuel which is converted into hydrogen for the fuel cell (HydroPlus). | | | |
